Ray Hughes
We received some very sad news today informing us that long time Beaufort regular Ray Hughes had passed away last Friday. It is particularly difficult to take this news in since many of us were talking to Ray only last Monday at our January Beaufort Jazz evening. As usual Ray was his affable self in good form listening to and enjoying what was a fine evening.
Ray will be fondly remembered as the musician who was simply introduced on stage as “Ray” and would more often than not play a solo set with his electric guitar. Many musicians would baulk at the prospect however Ray was happy with a solo set often performing one song after another without introduction, allowing us to simply enjoy his music. It’s difficult to think that we will not enjoy his company again at one of our evenings.
Obviously our thoughts and best wishes go out to his family.
